Afternoon Teas

The object of the event is to raise funds for
the Good News Hospital in Mandritsara, Madagascar -
where the Pugh family, from the Vendee,
are working for the next five years as volunteers
setting up a training course for local nurses.

They have to raise all their own living expenses
and we are seeking to ensure
that they can continue this valuable work.

Une communauté Anglicane dans la paroisse

Un office Anglican réunit chaque mois, les Britanniques de Vendée et même au-delà. Le fondateur de cette communauté réside aux Essarts,

Il y a probablement plus de 500 Britanniques qui habitent en permanence en Vendée. Ce nombre ne fera qu'augmenter, car les acquisitions par des Anglais de maisons à rénover sont en très nette augmentation.

Certaines de ces Britanniques sont membres de l'Eglise anglicane. Dans différentes régions de France, des structures paroissiales existent pour permettre aux catholiques anglicans de célébrer dans leur propre langue, et selon leur rite liturgique. En Vendée, rien n'était encore prévu jusqu'à maintenant. La communauté anglicane cherche à s'organiser depuis peu. C'est ainsi que, récemment, avec l'autorisation et l'approbation du Diocèse de Luçon, les églises de la Merlatière et de Puy de Serre accueillent chaque mois un petit groupe de fidèles anglicans.

Le dimanche 22 septembre une communauté d'une quarantaine de personnes s'est retrouvée en l'église de la Merlatière, pour une office d'action de grâces. Les denrées alimentaires qu'ils ont pour habitude d'offrir lors de cette célébration annuelle ont été remises au responsable du secours catholique local.

An Anglican church service every month brings together British people from the Vendée and beyond, see above. The founder of the group lives in les Essarts.

There are probably more than 500 British permanent residents in the Vendée. As the number of houses bought by the British for renovation in the area is constantly rising, this number is likely to increase.

Some of these are members of the Anglican Church. In other parts of France there are parish structures that allow Anglicans to worship in their own language, with their own liturgy. In the Vendée there was no provision until recently. The Anglican community has only just begun to look into the matter. With the permission of the diocese of Luçon, the churches at la Merlatière and the Puy de Serre now welcome monthly a small group of Anglican believers.

On Sunday 22 September, a group of about forty people gathered at la Merlatière, for a communion. The harvest gifts that they brought were donated to the Secours Catholique food bank.
